Roderick Davenport Profile
We saw plenty of signs last year that Roderick Davenport was going to be a player to watch. A year later he's already surpassed his junior season stats after just 5 games. Schools are starting to show a lot more interest in the Orangeburg-Wilkinson standout. He sat down and gave SCPrepNation.com the inside scoop on the very latest.
"My senior season is going great. We are 4-1 right now and I was named South Carolina High School League player of the week recently."
Asked to talk about where he stands statistically Davenport replied, "So far this year I've got 435 yards rushing for 9 touchdowns. I've also got 148 receiving yards and caught 2 touchdowns."
The figures are impressive considering he's already surpassed his stats from his junior season through just 5 games on the year. Especially when Orangeburg-Wilkinson is known for their aerial attack on offense.
Davenport talked about his goals for the rest of his senior season and some games he's looking forward to for the Bruins.
"I want to help my team win the state championship and I want to rush for over 1,000 yards and score 21 touchdowns."
"I'm really looking forward to the Richland Northeast game becasue they are 4-0 and this will the biggest game of this senior year I think."
Asked about his toughest opponent so far this season he quickly mentioned our #1 prospect for the state in the 2012 class Shaq Roland from Lexington.
"He can play well on both sides of the ball. He is a very good athlete."
Talking about his own style of play on the field he had this to say, "I'm a physcial running back that can also catch out the backfield. I am trying to improve mostly on my blocking because I think that would help make me a complete running back."
Colleges are taking notice of Davenport's talents too. Cincinnati, North Carolina State, Wake Forest, Coastal Carolina, Clemson, and South Carolina State are in contact on regular basis. From that list he says that the Bearcats of Cincinnati are recruiting him the hardest right now.
The O-W back knows what he's looking for when considering possible college destinations too.
"I'm looking for a lot of things like education and location. I would like to come in and play early if possible and having a good coaching staff is a key too."
Stay tuned to SCPrepNation.com for more updates with Roderick Davenport as he continues to impress during his senior season.
