Badger SC Showcase: Stock Risers

2012 DE Wesley Scott

There were some guys at the Badger Sport South Showcase Combine last Saturday who came in with a solid reputation prior to arriving and then there were guys who were looking to make a name for themselves. Inside we take a look at some prospects who helped raise their stock the most after Saturday's events.

South Carolina Stock Risers

2012 DE Wesley Scott Ridgeland High School-I spotted Scott during registration and first talked to him as I was taking his photo He obviously had the size at 6'3 240 pounds but I wanted to see how well he moved and performed during testing I followed his group to the shuttle testing area and my eyes lit up when I saw how agile he was for a prospect his size His best of 4 48 seconds in the shuttle was better than many skill position players I then followed his group to see him run the 40 yard dash He looked impressive running his initial one in 4 9 seconds but one of the coaches gave him some pointers about his start and technique He then ran a 4 79 in his second and final 40 attempt Scott has some schools taking a look early but prospects with his size, strength, and speed normally already have a nice collection of offers in hand at this point Expect him to jump in the in-state rankings during our next release and the offers to start rolling in

2012 S/LB Bradley Lipscomb Bartlett Yancey High School-This young man made the trip down from North Carolina and tested off the charts He lines up at linebacker for his school but his future is at safety on the next level At 6'0 197 pounds Lipscomb came in ready to work and he ran a 4 51 second 40, had a superb 4 17 second shuttle, and benched 185 pounds 25 times The NC prospect was strong in seven on seven action and it appears that he could make the transition to safety relatively easily Very smooth athlete who shows impressive explosion when needed and change of direction This young man should be getting a ton of interest in the next few weeks followed by some offers Schools may want him to camp and workout at safety before pulling the trigger but he's got a lot of upside

2012 RB Dezmon Venning Wando High School-We've been tracking Venning for over a year and he arrived at Bamberg in tremendous shape At 5'9 194 pounds he was one of the most ripped prospects in attendance along with Lipscomb Venning ran a 4 5 second 40, a 4 3 second shuttle, and repped 185 pounds 21 times During drills Venning stood out with good footwork and soft hands making some nice grabs coming out of the backfield With a college ready frame and the skills he displayed Venning sure looked the role of a D1 college player on Saturday Stay tuned for an update with Venning this weekend

2013 CB Marcus Edmond Lower Richland High School-Edmond was a pleasant surprise on Saturday He arrived late but had a very good showing during testing, drills, and seven on seven action Edmond has a lanky build but he uses his length to his advantage in coverage He's got decent speed with a 4 6 40 and 4 39 second shuttle time With two more years to go, Edmond has time to add strength and experience He'll more than likely need to lower his 40 time but as stated before time is on his side We'll talk with Edmond soon to see where his recruitment stands currently and what his outlook is for the future

2013 S Nicholas Halmon Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School-Halmon played linebacker for the Red Raiders and put up some astronomical numbers (131 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks) as a sophomore but we're projecting him as a safety on the next level Speed is an area of concern as he ran a 4 71 second 40 but we're certain he'll improve over the next two seasons there Halmon did very well in the shuttle with a 4 24 second time He came in at 5'10 170 pounds so he'll be able to add more muscle to his frame which should make him a player as a safety on the next level Halmon's a player we'll be tracking closely over the next two seasons especially if he continues his production rate on the field

2013 QB Keiston Smith Union County High School-Smith came in to the event as our #1 QB in the 2013 class and he didn't disappoint one bit The UCHS standout had a great overall day during testing, drills, and seven on seven action Smith served notice that he wants to remain the top QB in SC for 2013 and that he'll be a player to watch regionally as well if he keeps up his current development pace Expect more schools to start tracking him as his reputation continues to grow especially after taking home Top Offensive/QB honors at the Badger Sport South Showcase We'll have an update with Smith soon to bring you the very latest
