Signee Update: LB Ralph Cooper

One of the state's toughest prospects, linebacker Ralph Cooper of Fairfield Central, is headed to Illinois soon. SCPrepNation.com caught up with Cooper before he leaves for school in a two week series of signee updates with some of the top prospects from the 2011 class.

Ralph Cooper Profile

There's always some players each recruiting cycle who have a really outgoing and likeable personality. One guy who really stood out in the 2011 class in that area along with his play on the field is Fairfield Central LB Ralph Cooper. SCPrepNation.com will be conducting interviews with 2011 signees over the next few weeks before some of these young men leave for their college destination.

"I actually leave today, June 8th. I have to report on the 9th," Cooper told us.

The talented linebacker when asked about his top moment from his senior season shared the story of one of his teammate's plays during the playoffs.

"My fondest memory was watching my teammate Shaquille Young catch an amazing catch against BHP in the final seconds of a third round playoff game."

Heading off to Illinois Cooper will be hundreds of miles away from home and he talked about how tough it will be for him like many other college bound students. Cooper also has a number of goals that he's set for himself during his freshman campaign.

"I will miss my friends and family the most being away."

"My goals for next season is to come in and play while gaining valuable experience and prove every college that overlooked me because of my height wrong."

Since the end of his senior season Cooper says he's been working out as often as possible to help him earn a chance to play his freshman season.

"Yeah I've been going on the lifting and running program they (Illinois staff) sent us. It's really been helping a lot."

Although he'll be away he'll have someone else from the Palmetto State to keep him company.

"I'll most likely be rooming with Zeph Grimes from Bamberg-Ehrhardt."

Cooper says he plans on majoring in Electrical Engineering while at Illinois.
