Samson Baldwin Profile

Over a year ago Samson Baldwin burst onto the scene and schools started making inquiries about the talented 2012 J.L. Mann wide receiver. Baldwin and his J.L. Mann teammates moved up to AAAA from the AAA ranks last season and the talented slot receiver continued to pile up the stats for his Patriots squad. We caught up with Baldwin recently to get an update on the very latest regarding his recruitment.

His junior season despite plenty of attention from opposing defenses including some double teams Baldwin still managed to post an impressive stat line.

"I ended up with 75 catches for 900 yards and 11 touchdowns."

Baldwin in fact had his best performance of the season against one of the state's perennial powerhouses.

"My best game was against Dorman High School. I had over 150 yards on 7 catches. Adam Humphries (Clemson DB signee) covered me just about the whole game."

Enjoying success against a top flight cornerback enabled Baldwin to continue that success throughout the season. Consequently more schools have started inquiring about him and recruiting him since our last update.

"I'm hearing from Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, UCLA, Duke, NC State, Florida State, Nabraska, Colorado, Penn State, Maryland, Tennessee, and East Carolina. Texas A&M is recruiting me the hardest out of everybody right now."

This past season Baldwin was able to check out one school during a big rivalry game and he talked about how the event stacked up for him.

"I visited Alabama during the season when they played Florida. It was one of the most exciting things I've ever been to."

Baldwin says he's working to improve on all facets of his game this off season in order to get better but especially a few areas that he feels additional work is needed.

"My speed, balance, upper body strength, and vision."

One area that the 2012 feels has improved the most since the end of sophomore season is an area of his game that we felt exactly the same after catching him in action live a couple times this past year. He also talked about some other areas he's made improvements since his junior season ended as well.

"My route running has really improved the most since the end of my sophomore season. I've lowered my 40 time from a 4.7 to a 4.6 and lowered my pro shuttle time to 4.19 seconds."

Despite playing the likes of Adam Humphries and other top corners in the region one player stood out above other defensive backs he faced last year.

"The corner from T.L. Hanna High School, Glen Hilliard. He's committed to East Carolina. He's really big and physical."

One goal that Baldwin has set for himself is to try and earn a spot on next season's Shrine Bowl team he says.

With so many schools in the mix and still awaiting his first offer Baldwin talked about his timeframe on making a decision.

"I don't really know right now. I'll just have to see how everything is at the time."
