Shun Tribble Profile
2012 Woodruff running back Shun Tribble tore up opposing defenses last season to the tune of 1,975 yards and 29 touchdowns last year as a junior. He returns with many of the same guys who opened big holes for him last year and add the fact that he's gotten bigger, stronger, and faster and that's bad news for opponents of the Wolverines. SCPrepNation.com caught up with Tribble to talk about where things stand currently with his recruitment and his outlook heading into his senior season for coach Brian Lane's Woodruff Wolverines.
Last year Tribble checked in at 5'8 160 pounds and he earned All-Region and All-State honors along the way. He's grown to 5'10 170 pound this summer though. The 2012 prospect has worked on numerous aspects of his game this off season but he's paid special attention to his blocking abilities and catching the ball out of the backfield he says.
Asked to tell us where he feels his strengths are currently on the field he replied, "My speed, vision, acceleration, patience, and hard work in the weight room."
Having punished opponents last season on the ground Tribble gave his offensive line plenty of praise especially with two D1 prospects up front in Javarius Leamon and Caleb Smith.
"I'm very blessed to have them both, it's the most important thing for a back to have (great linemen). I could have all the talent but without those special linemen I wouldn't be as successful."
Tribble and the Wolverines have set the bar high after making a deep run in the AA playoffs last season. He talked at length about where he hopes to help lead this year's team.
"We want to win the region championship, win the state championship, and finish the season undefeated. I want this team to be remembered as one of the greats."
Tribble made it clear that he puts all team goals ahead of personal goals but he told us some achievements he'd like to accomplish during his senior season.
"My personal goals would be to lead the state in rushing yards and touchdowns and set many rushing records for the future to break eventually."
He also talked about what games he's most looking forward to this year as well.
"I'm looking forward to playing Clinton because they are a huge rival, but I'd really love to play the first week in December (for a state title)."
His efforts last season and at various camps have earned Tribble looks from a number of college programs. He told us about it all and is hoping to add more schools and offers to his resume once the season gets underway.
"Right now I'm hearing from Wofford, Duke, Georgia Southern, Furman, North Carolina State , Newberry, and Gardner Webb."
A pair of those schools have made a strong push as of late compared to the others though. A trio of schools have already stepped forward and given Tribble scholarship offers.
"Georgia Southern and North Carolina State have been recruiting me the hardest lately."
"I have offers from Georgia Southern, Gardner Webb, and Newberry. I feel that NC State, Duke, Furman, and Wofford will offer me when the season starts."
Clemson, Florida, Appalachian State, and Wake Forest are some schools that Tribble says he'd like to hear more from this season.
Should Tribble pick up right where he left off last season expect those offers to start piling up and SCPrepNation.com will continue to bring you updates with him and other top prospects here in the Palmetto State.
