Every prospect dreams about the day that their elusive first offer comes. After putting together an impressive junior season in which he helped Abbeville win back to back 1A state titles 2013 linebacker/defensive end Kennan Gilchrist like many others dreamed of the day that he might earn his first scholarship. Well that day came on Monday and Gilchrist gave SCPrepNation.com the scoop first.
"I just got my first offer from Air Force," Gilchrist said Monday evening.
"Coach Clay Hendrix offered me. I didn't really think much of it when they told me to call them. I thought we were just going to talk about things in general with recruiting. So when he said they were offering I was really surprised and really excited."
Gilchrist's junior season consisted of 60 solo tackles, 39 assists, 7 quarterback pressures, 7 sacks, 2 interceptions, 3 batted passes, 1 caused fumble, 3 recovered fumbles, and 3 defensive touchdowns.
Watching Gilchrist's film we're confident that more schools will step up their interest just as Air Force has moving forward. In fact, Gilchrist is a sleeper that we project will emerge with double digit offers before his recruitment is done. Add the fact that he carries a 3.6 GPA in the classroom and it makes him even more recruitable. The 6'3 200 pound prospect is hungry to improve his stock and plans on hitting the camp and combine circuit this off season to showcase his talents further.
Gilchrist is scheduled to visit Duke this coming Saturday.
