Kennan Gilchrist Profile
The off season is moving right along and camps are in full swing. One prospect who is starting to open some eyes is 2013 Abbeville linebacker Kennan Gilchrist. Hitting the camp circuit Gilchrist has one primary mission on his agenda, to show coaches that he can make the move from defensive end to linebacker on the next level. The 6'3 200 pound prospect was dominant for the Panthers in helping them repeat as 1A state champions this year. We sat down with him to find out the very latest regarding his recruitment and plans moving forward.
The Panthers like most schools are in the midst of spring practices and Gilchrist talked about how his squad is looking in hopes of making a run at three state championships come next season.
"Things been going great! The team is coming together real early. The younger kids are learning fast and playing hard. The seniors are taking over leadership roles and with the coaches help we hope to contend for another state championship."
The spring has seen quite a few schools come by Abbeville to see the talented linebacker prospect.
"So far North Carolina State, Appalachian State, Clemson, Duke, Furman, Air Force, and The Citadel have come out to see me."
Gilchrist in fact gave us the lowdown as to what some of those programs each had to say to him below:
- Appalachian State-They were talking about how much they love my film and how they want me to come down to visit the campus
- Clemson-talked about how they see me play on film, but can't wait to see me at camp
- Duke-talked about camp and how they cant wait to see me work with their coaches
- Furman-talked about the offer and just talking to me about how much they love my on and off the field actions
- Air Force-talked about the offer and how it would be at Air Force and the things I would have to go through
- The Citadel-told me how they love me coming off the edge and want me to come to camp
As he mentioned Gilchrist already holds offers from Air Force and Furman. He mentioned a pair of schools who he feels may be close to joining the pair.
"I think that Appalachian State and The Citadel are close. I think that other schools are just waiting on to see me with foot work drills at linebacker."
Gilchrist has seen a pair of in-state schools recently for visits and talked about that as well.
"I went to Furman for their spring game. It was a beautiful school and everything was close together. I also made it to one of Clemson's practices. Everything was good. The coaching staff, the players, and atmosphere was great."
For right now the 2013 prospect says he'll be camping with NC State, Clemson, Duke, LSU, Kentucky, and others he's trying to line up. He's been working hard to prepare himself for those camps especially with his foot work so that he can land even more offers.
In the midst of spring practice and coming off their second consecutive 1A state title we asked Gilchrist just what it will take to win a third straight state championship.
"I just think it's going to take leadership from the seniors and hard off season workouts. I think that we all know that we are moving up another level and nobody has a lot of faith in us. With that we are gonna use that as a chip on our shoulder and play Abbeville football!"
