Timberland Head Football Coach, Art Craig, had the privilege of watching six of his football players sign Letters of Intent on this past February. Well, from the looks of things early on, he could be sending six more players to the college ranks come next February. More details inside…

Six football players from Timberland High School signed Letters of Intent on Signing Day this past February. Players who inked on the dotted line included: DE James Middleton (UNC-Charlotte), LB/S Daquan Lucas (Miami of Ohio), S/WR Lee Mayes (Newberry), LB Mike Wilson (SC State), RB Classe Thompson (North Greenville), and OL Bobby McNeil (Newberry).

Well, history certainly has a chance to repeat itself come next February. The defending Class 2A Division I State Football Champions have another intriguing group of prospects this year, and college coaches have not been shy about knocking down the doors of Timberland High School to see what these intriguing 2013 prospects have to offer.

“It’s been pretty crazy around here this spring,” said Coach Craig. “Schools from all over have been calling or coming by within the last few weeks. Clemson has been through, South Carolina, UNC, App State, Charleston Southern, Youngstown State, Coastal Carolina, Navy, and SC State, just to name a few. Most of the attention has been for our CB/WR, Austin McKinney. In fact, Arizona is supposed to be coming in to see him on next week.”

Although the 6-0, 170 pound McKinney, who clocks a 4.48 in the forty-yard dash has been generating most of the traffic, there are five other prospects on Timberland’s roster who have been making a little noise of their own in the recruiting world. “Our big OL/DL Brian Moore (pictured) has been coming on strong lately,” said Craig. “A lot of your smaller DI schools have been showing interest in him. Recruiting has really been picking up for him.”

“Recruiting for (DE/LB) Isaac Ferguson, (LB/FB) Adam June, (RB/DB) Roderick McCray, and (ATH/DB) Deandre Pressley, has been picking up steam as well,” Craig continued. “There’s been a combination of small DI/DII schools showing interest in all of those guys. I feel we have a solid group of prospects in this year’s class. I think we are going to surprise a lot of people.”

We will have more on this intriguing group out of Timberland High School in the near future, so stay tuned for much more.
