Kwamelle Barnes Profile

One of the state's most talented and deepest positions in the 2014 recruiting class is at offensive tackle. Saluda's Kwamelle Barnes is sparking interest from a number of high major D1 schools early on and he sat down with SCPrepNation.com to talk about his recruitment and early junior season.

"It has been a good start so far for us. I'm starting at offensive tackle and defensive end. I have made some big plays on defense and I need to continue to be a good offensive lineman. I just need to get better on some things so I can be the best player I can be."

Barnes and his Saluda team are off to a solid start this season. The 6'4 285 pound prospect talked about their record so far this year.

"Our record is 2-1 right now. We beat Gilbert 26-7 and we beat Ridge-Spring Monetta 37-0. We lost against Strom Thurmond 35-3 on Friday."

There are also a few new schools that have been showing Barnes interest as of late too.

"I have been receiving letters from Wake Forest almost everyday and I got one from Michigan a couple weeks ago, that's about it as far as new schools go."

Prior to hearing from the Demon Deacons and Wolverines Barnes was already hearing from Baylor, Clemson, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina. He has yet to land his first scholarship offer and we asked Barnes what his feelings would be once that special day arrives.

"Words probably won't describe as to how I will feel, but it will be the best feeling ever for me."

Asked what schools he feels may be the first to offer Barnes had this to say.

"I think either South Carolina or Clemson will offer me first."

Barnes and his Saluda teammates will have a bye this week but will face Branchville the following week.

Virginia Tech has become the latest school to contact Barnes since the conclusion of this interview.
