Andre Stoddard Profile

To say his junior season was a great success would probably be putting it mildly for 2014 running back Andre Stoddard of St. Joseph's High School. The 5'10 220 pound prospect raced his way to a state record that was held by Marcus Lattimore helping the Knights make a strong playoff run. He sat down with SCPrepNation.com after taking in a Junior Day visit with Louisville last weekend to talk the very latest.

"Last season I had 303 carries for 2,775 yards. It's a South Carolina single season rushing record. I also scored 40 touchdowns which ranks fourth all-time in a single season. I scored 8 touchdowns in a single game and that is second all-time. I ended the season with 3,200 all-purpose yards."

Stoddard picked up his first offer from nearby Furman University and he's hoping that it's the first of many offers. He took the ride up to Louisville last weekend to check out the Cardinals' Junior Day festivities and chopped it up with the coaching staff while he was there.

"It was great. I really liked the campus, met some great people and coaches. I just really enjoyed my time there," Stoddard told us.

There was one key part of his trip that he said stood out the most for him too.

"Listening to the coaches talk and how they put a huge emphasis on academics and graduating."

Louisville assistant Kenny Carter is Stoddard's primary recruiter for the Cardinals. While there Stoddard says he talked a good bit with Carter and head coach Charlie Strong.

So what did they have to say to Stoddard?

"They said that they are signing two running backs from the 2014 class and they believed that we were all some of the best backs in the country. They said that they don't recruit any "dud" athletes and there was a reason that we were all there."

Stoddard reemphasized how much enjoyed what the Cardinals had to say about the academic side of things. He said that's what he likes best about the Cardinals right now.

"The type of environment that they provide for their players and the emphasis on graduating. They told us that if we didn't plan on graduating and getting a degree not to come to Louisville and I loved that."

The 2014 prospect says he's currently in the midst of setting up some more upcoming visits with other schools soon. He also shared with us some of the schools who are actively pursuing him right now.

"I'm hearing from Mississippi State, North Carolina State, Southern Mississippi, Notre Dame, Michigan, Auburn, North Carolina, Louisville, Georgia Tech, and a few others."

Asked about which schools are pressing him the hardest right now Stoddard says that Louisville and Mississippi State are showing him the most love right now.

After a record breaking junior season what does he want to accomplish next year as a senior?

"I want to improve on every aspect of my game and improve my numbers from last year. I just want to put my team in the best situation to have success."

With the NFL combine being held this past week Stoddard says seeing the competition and drills only amped him up more to get out there himself to keep training and compete this off season.

Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama are schools that Stoddard says he would like to hear more from in the next few months. After piling up 5,500+ rushing yards and 81 touchdowns the past 3 seasons he's hoping a lot more schools start contacting him not only with interest but scholarship offers.

For his efforts Stoddard has been named to the All-State team, a 3-time All-County selection, and was named Region Player Of The Year.

SCPrepNation.com will have more updates with Stoddard as he prepares to schedule more visits and hits the camp/combine circuit this Spring.
