Sean Smith Profile

2014 Summerville tight end Sean Smith gave his verbal commitment earlier this week and he talked with SCPrepNation.com all about it in this exclusive update.

"I committed to Middle Tennessee," Smith said.

Asked what sold him about the program he replied, "The coaches. They told me they liked me from day one and when I got out of the car for their camp and they confirmed my size they offered. They are excited about me, and how they are going to be able to use me in their offense."

Although Summerville has been a run heavy offense in recent years Smith was able to hit the road and camp or visit with a number of schools which lead to a handful of offers prior to the start of his senior season. Other schools had informed the 6'6 225 pound prospect that they wanted to see early senior season film of him in action to further evaluate him. With his commitment made will he consider other schools or taking official visits later?

"I will listen and I don't know about visits yet. Just depends on who it is I guess. I'm happy with my decision."

The Middle Tennessee coaches apparently were quite ecstatic when Smith gave them his verbal commitment.

"They were excited. Coach Stockstill was at the Conference USA Media Day and when he got word he left a meeting so I could call him. Coach Stockstill has a great relationship with some of our coaches at Summerville. He recruited our area when he was at South Carolina and Clemson and our coaches spoke very highly of him."

Asked how it felt to have his decision made and behind him now Smith said, "It feels good. I wanted to try to make narrow down my choices before we started our summer camp and I was able to visit quite a few schools this summer, so that helped too."

With his senior season just a few weeks away from starting what is Smith's mindset at this point?

"I'm focused. We start fall camp Friday and that is the first step towards a championship."

Smith says he's spent some time with his quarterback this off season to work on their timing and familiarity.
