For 2015 Pelion safety/wide receiver Freddie Phillips it was another busy weekend this off season. A prospect who has been on our radar since his freshman season Phillips is seeing all of his hard work and training pay off now. This weekend he was in North Carolina participating in two camps and also took in a college visit as well. The ultra athletic Phillips didn't walk away empty-handed either.
"Wake Forest offered me this weekend," Phillips messaged us.
"The head coach, Dave Clawson offered me. Him and a lot of the other coaches went to dinner with my parents and me and they said they really liked how I play on both sides of the ball and think I would be a great fit into their program."
Arguably one of the top athletes in the state Phillips says that the Demon Deacons mentioned him possibly playing on both sides of the ball and he also talked about what he liked most about his trip to Winston Salem.
"Yes but I think they can use me more at the safety position. I really liked the campus and enjoyed sitting down and talking to the coaches while I was there."
As we mentioned earlier Phillips competed in a pair of camps in North Carolina as well.
"I did really well at the NFTC and Rivals camps. I played safety at both of them."
As of right now there are no other camps or visits lined up Phillips says but he'll let us know if things change in the near future. As for now Wake Forest is his fifth scholarship offer joining previous offers from Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, North Carolina, and NC State.
