Quietly 2015 Boiling Springs tight end Collin Reed has become one of the most sought after prospects in the state. The 6'3 225 pound prospect had a great junior season for the Bulldogs and we saw him twice last season making big play after big play for his team. We finally caught up with Reed and talked to him about his recruitment and plans moving forward.
Last season Reed had 48 catches for 850 yards and 8 touchdowns. Both times we saw him he was one of the most outstanding prospects on the field.
We talked with Reed about where his current strengths are and where he'd like to make improvements heading into next season as well.
"My ability to help in the passing game definitely has always been my strength but I have grown very confident in my blocking this spring. To improve I need to improve in all aspects. I am nowhere near perfect! I feel like I need to improve everywhere."
Arguably the top tight end prospect in the state for the 2015 class Reed has already heard from quite a number of schools while picking up 9 scholarship offers.
He also talked about some of the schools that he is hearing a lot from that haven't offered him yet.
He's also taken some visits to quite a few schools and he touched on what he liked about each of the schools he's already seen thus far.
- "With North Carolina I really connected with the new tight ends coach Seth Littrell."
- "At Wake Forest I had a great time and I really like what coach Clawson and the staff are trying to accomplish there."
- "As for Clemson I really meshed well with coach Pearman and coach Scott."
- "Appalachian State I really had a fun time being around their program."
- "Charlotte I really loved everything about their new facilities."
- "At NC State I really enjoyed hanging out with their players."
- "Furman's new facilities are very impressive."
With so many schools showing heavy interest and possibly thinking about offering we asked Reed if he plans on camping with a number of those schools this off season to try and earn some more offers with strong camp performances?
"Maybe at a few, this summer is going to tell a lot!"
Asked if he already has a timetable in his mind about when he might make a final decision Reed said, "It really depends. Summer will tell a lot! But I don't plan on waiting until the last second!"
Reed says a lot of things will factor heavily for him when making that decision but most importantly "the education and coaching staff."
The 2015 prospect's goals for next season were short and sweet.
"Win State. End of story!"
We posed one last question to the Boiling Springs standout in closing, what should college coaches know about you?
"I believe my greatest characteristic is no one will out work me on the field or in the classroom!"
Reed reports a 4.5 GPA in the classroom and is awaiting test scores for the SAT and ACT but appears to be in great shape for qualifying easily.
