"I just committed to Georgia Southern!"
So what was about Georgia Southern that sold the Dutch Fork star on Statesboro?
"The coaches showed a ton of interest in me and they are great people. The town is a football town. They live for Saturdays down there and I want to see that first hand. The facilities are beautiful. The tradition is great. And I fit in great in their system. It just felt right as soon as I visited."
The 2015 prospect told us how the coaches responded upon learning he was committing to them?
"They were excited to say the least. I talked to a couple of the coaches on the phone after committing and they were talking about putting it on speaker just so I could hear them cheer."
Other schools obviously have been in the mix and others will likely pursue him as he'll probably have another stellar season for Dutch Fork as they are seeking another state championship after winning it all last year. Will Ecton listen to other suitors?
"I'll definitely appreciate everything they have for me but I want my commitment to mean something, and I'm 100% in on Southern, so I'm firm in this commitment."
Ecton will be the second Dutch Fork prospect from the 2015 class to give an early verbal commit as teammate RB Matt Colburn verbaled to Louisville. Apparently the two chopped it up a bit about what its like to end the process early.
"It's a relief. Now I can focus on my senior season. But we talked a little bit about that."
As for what Georgia Southern fans should know about Ecton...he had this to say.
"There's not much to know about me. I'm just ready to upset some big time schools."
