It took the insertion of former starting QB Blake Mitchell to bring the Gamecocks back into the contest and the Mitchell to Rice combo reeled off some huge chunks of yardage against the Razorback secondary. The 10 yard touchdown catch by Rice saw him leap high above the defender and pull the ball in while keeping his feet in bounds for another remarkable play to add to his illustrious career at USC. The catch puts the former Gaffney Indian star ahead of former USC standouts Robert Brooks (Greenwood) and Jermale Kelly (Berea) who are now tied for second with 19 touchdown catches. Rice recently made a trip home to watch his beloved alma mater defeat the Byrnes Rebels before a national TV audience on Fox Sports.
The Gamecocks will next face the Florida Gators on the road this coming Saturday as Steve Spurrier returns to the Swamp to face his former team again.
