SCPrepNation.com has been at Shrine Bowl practices all week and caught up with one of the early standouts early in the week, DT Delvin Johnson of Woodruff High School. Not a highly known commodity heading into the Shrine Bowl Johnson has made the most of his time on the practice fields and performed at a high level.
We caught up with Johnson on Tuesday afternoon to see just where his recruitment stands currently. At 6'4 283 pounds Johnson has good size and has pretty quick feet to go along with the solid size. Asked to give a self analysis of his play so far this week Johnson said, "I'm doing pretty good so far I think." Some schools have already entered the mix for his commitment and he shared with us his updated list. "Right now I'm hearing from South Carolina State, North Carolina State, Newberry, and Tulsa. I have offers from South Carolina State and Newberry right now. I'll try to increase my offers this week hopefully though."
Johnson's high school coach at Woodruff High Freddie Brown was in attendance both sessions to offer support and advice when he could to his standout defensive player. "Coach Brown was telling me to keep playing hard, keep my pads low, and keep doing what we've been practicing all year long."
The Woodruff star has put forth a strong effort during the first 2 days and he's opened up the eyes of quite a few college coaches in attendance. Johnson however is letting his play speak for itself hoping to draw more scholarship offers. "I'm going to do the best that I can. This is the best of the best and I'm happy to be out here among them."
