Mark Barnes the #2 rated safety in the country enjoyed a tremendous career for Richland Northeast High School and on Saturday after playing in the Shrine Bowl the standout made his decision. SCPrepNation.com was there as Barnes finally revealed his college destination.
After praising both Louisville and South Carolina for the respective jobs they'd done recruiting him Barnes couldn't wait any longer as he stopped the praises and said, "I'm gonna go on and get it over with...and I will be going to the University of South Carolina."
Asked what one thing stood out about the Gamecocks Barnes replied, "South Carolina recruited me as an athlete and also recruiting me as a student. To me I felt that being recruited as a student is the most important thing in life, of course I have to go to school and play ball but I also have to do my work and graduate."
With his decision made Barnes was asked what position he felt he'd be playing in college. The RNE star replied, "Really I'll play any position that will get me on the field faster and that also will help the team out."
Barnes said he made up his mind when, "Basically this whole week I've been thinking about it for a long period of time and I basically just let it come down to what my heart said."
