UP NEXT: 2009 Westside CB Lex Butler

Lex Butler is a standout cornerback for the Westside Rams. He's also the next player to be featured in SCPrepNation.com's "UP NEXT" series. Playing alongside his brother Lee who's already committed to Duke, Lex already has D1 interest so come inside for a look at Lex Butler.

Our latest player to be profiled in our "UP NEXT" series should sound vaguely familiar. He suits it up for the Westside Rams and plays cornerback. His last name is Butler but we're not talking about 2008 star Lee Butler. We're talking about his younger brother in the 2009 class Lex Butler. SCPrepNation.com caught up with Lex Butler to find out the very latest regarding his recruitment and goals for next season.

Some people may find it hard to have an older brother who's a big time star but Westside CB Lex Butler doesn't mind older brother Lee getting a lot of the spotlight right now. It's because he knows that his turn will soon come as well. The younger Butler talked about his relationship with big brother and said, "It's great because of him I already know what to expect (both on the field and in terms of recruiting). By him getting a lot of attention from college coaches and recruiters it also turns some of the coaches towards me to watch for in the class of '09. Also I have already went with him to a lot of the camps and visits so I have already gotten an early look at some of the schools."

While Lee recently gave his commitment to Duke Lex is hearing from some of the same schools that are recruiting his older brother. "I'm hearing from Duke, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and others. I'd like to hear from Georgia, Clemson, Wake Forest, Florida State, and South Carolina." He's already seen just about all of the schools that Lee has visited as he also joined him on those visits to see what colleges have to offer.

With interest from various D1 programs already Lex has some areas he plans on improving this offseason to garner even more interest. "I want to get bigger, stronger, and faster. So on the field I'll have a faster break on the ball and I'll be more explosive when it comes making contact."

Explosiveness is a trait that he enjoys when he's watching his favorite pro player as well. "Devin Hester is my favorite pro."

The goal for next season is already set for Lex as he said, "Making it to and play in the state championship game coming away with a win."

Lex shared with us some of his numbers from the weight room as well. "I have a max of 225 pounds on the bench, 320 pounds on squat, a 34 inch vertical and a 4.5 second 40 time." On his 5'10 160 pound frame he shows solid strength with 2 years left to grow even further.

Lex utilizes that work in the weight room along with his intelligence to be a playmaker for the Rams. "I use my speed, technique, and the fact that I play smart on the field. I know the game."

As he continues to improve SCPrepNation.com will have more on Lex Butler. The Butler brothers will definitely be a force for the Westside Rams this coming season once again so stay tuned.
