The Carolina Celtics embarked on day two of the AAU Super Showcase in Orlando Florida after compiling a 2-0 record on day one of the tournament. Day two would see their competition level rise once again as they were set to face The Family which is always a strong AAU program based out of Detroit Michigan.
The Celtics had a hard time dealing with The Family in their first game of the day. They also had a hard time finding their touch from the free throw line. They managed just 9-20 from the charity stripe and ultimately that contributed to their 81-68 loss. Porter Gaud star Khris Middleton lead the way with 27 points while Southside's Marlin Butler and Robbie Dreher had 10 and 7 respectively. Lucas Troutman of BHP also had a nice game with 8 points while Willis Hall from Charlotte had 7.
Their next outing went much better as they faced the Florida Prospects squad and came away with a 79-56 win. Once again Khris Middleton powered the Celtics with 20 points while Easley's Joe McNeely came up huge with 14 points. Willis Hall had another strong game with 16 points while Devin Booker and Robbie Dreher added 9 and 7. The victory pushed the Celtics into the quarterfinals where they'll face Tennessee YOMCA Tigers.
UPDATE: The Celtics fell to he Tennessee YOMCA Tigers 86-73 in the quarterfinals. We will have more with the Celtics over the next few days (feature story on SG Khris Middleton is already posted and we'll be interviewing PG Joe McNeely within the next 24 hours).
We will now turn our attention to the South Carolina Ravens who will be competing in the 17U's starting Tuesday so stay tuned.
