Last year Xavier Dye wasn't the only Byrnes Rebel player forced to sit out. When you saw Xavier you saw OT Scott McNichols as well. A year later McNichols is ready to suit it up for the Rebels and make a statement during his senior season.
We spoke at length with the 6'6 295 pound McNichols for the very latest regarding this upcoming season, his recruitment, and having to sit out last season in this exclusive Q&A.
Scott McNichols Q&A
KF: What was it like for you having to sit out so long last year at Byrnes?
SM: Sitting out last year was kind of a downer not being able to play for most of the season, but practicing with such a loving team made it better for me. With the coaches encouraging me everyday made it a lot better too.
KF: What areas have you been working on the most this offseason?
SM: Probably my footwork and technique.
KF: What makes you such a dominant offensive lineman?
SM: My aggressiveness and my awareness of blitzes on a defense.
KF: What areas do you want to work on the most to improve?
SM: I think my footwork could get a lot better and I'd also like to get faster.
KF: What are your goals for this upcoming season Scott?
SM: To help my team in anyway possible get back to Columbia and win the state championship. I also want to improve my game to its fullest.
KF: What colleges are you currently being recruited by?
SM: Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina State, North Carolina State, Clemson, Maryland, and a few others.
KF: What offers do you have?
SM: South Carolina State has offered me.
KF: Do you have a favorite at this point?
SM: I'm really interested in all of the schools I mentioned earlier.
KF: What factors will be most important to you when it comes time to make a decision for college?
SM: First off their academics, then the football team, and their all around atmosphere.
KF: What teams are you most looking forward to going up against this season?
SM: The team I want to play the most of course is Gaffney. They put us out of the playoffs last year and because they are our big rival every year.
KF: Have you taken any visits yet? If so, where and what did you think about each?
SM: I have not taken any official visits but I have been to Georgia, Tennessee, and Clemson. All of those schools had what I am looking for.
KF: Do you have any idea as to when you might make a decision?
SM: Probably around Signing Day.
