“I just committed to Furman about 20 minutes ago,” Steed said with the sound of excitement in his voice. “Actually, I’m still up here on my official visit. We are on a tour right now, and I will be going to a basketball game later on.”
Ryan Steed was more commonly know for making his mark on the hardwood, until this past fall when he stepped onto the football field. Steed performed well enough to land three scholarship offers from Charleston Southern, The Citadel, and Furman University.
With three scholarship offers on the table and possibly a few more to follow, what made Steed decide to go with the Paladins? “The school is not too big,” Steed said. “It has like a close knit setting to it. It seems very family oriented. Basically I liked what I saw up here and just decided to make my decision.”
Steed who primarily lined up at quarterback will probably be making the switch to defensive back once he arrives at Furman. The 6-0, 175 pound ATH wrapped up his senior season with nearly 1300 yards of total offense, and 20 touchdowns for the Panthers. He also picked off 4 passes on the defensive side of the ball.
Although Steed has made a commitment to play for the Paladin’s football program, will he make an occasional appearance on the basketball court? I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens…
Note: Steed is currently averaging a little over 19 points a game for the two-time Defending SCISA Men’s Basketball Champions, Pinewood Prep.
