All-state selection. Check. County Player Of The Year. Check. State Championship. Check. Scholarship offers. Check. 2009 Southside SG Robbie Dreher has all of those things under his belt now. Inside he talks about his drive to add more offers and help his team win back to back state titles next year. With 4 offers in hand expect Dreher to keep reeling in more as the summer approaches.

Robbie Dreher Profile

We first told you about Southside SG Robbie Dreher over a year and a half ago. The 2009 prospect has continued to grow and has emerged as one of the top players in the Palmetto State. Two seasons ago saw Dreher and his Southside team nearly run the table undefeated until losing in the state championship to Lee Central which was lead by current South Carolina Gamecock freshman standout Michael Holmes. Now, a year later, the Tigers closed the deal convincingly winning the AA state championship. Dreher has seen his stock rise and he hopes to take it to an even higher level this offseason.

The awards keep rolling in for Robbie Dreher. After leading Southside to a dominating AA state championship performance he recently was named Greenville County Player Of The Year. An all-state selection as well Dreher takes it all in stride. "It feels real good. I'm really just going out there and playing ball. I don’t try to do too much but just do what I can to help my team and things are falling into place for me."

Since last season Dreher has grown another inch to 6'4 and added 10 pounds moving him to 180. Those strenuous workouts in the weight room are obviously starting to pay big dividends for the 2009 prospect. Asked about the motivation for the team this season after losing only in the state title game last year he replied, "We didn’t want that feeling coming back from Columbia with that loss last year. We came back hungrier this year. We worked hard in practice this year to improve. It paid off for us."

The Tigers lost 2 games this year when Dreher was out with an ankle injury early on. Both losses came at the hands of AAA power J.L. Mann which features freshman sensation Damien Leonard who also was named to the all-state team. Asked if that matchup next season is already marked on the calendar Dreher quickly said, "Oh yeah we want them real bad. We gotta get them back. We were supposed to be undefeated. I missed both of those games out with the ankle injury."

Once Dreher came back from the injury things started to gel once again for the Tigers as Dreher averaged 21 points and 5 rebounds per game at his shooting guard position. (Keep in mind that Dreher normally didn't play extended minutes because the Tigers usually would run out to a big lead and then let their reserves gain valuable playing experience.)

Dreher once again will be playing AAU ball with the Carolina Celtics and expectations are high for the traveling squad. "Oh yeah we’re trying to improve. We had the team to win a lot more tournaments but we will do our best to do that this year." The Celtics raced out to a strong start last summer and won a number of tournaments. With a few changes on the roster expect them along with Dreher to make major noise on the AAU circuit again.

Having won the state championship as a junior there's a few things that Dreher wants now but one thing stands out from the rest. "I just want to win state again man. I got enough individual honors this year so we just want to focus on winning state again next year." In order to do so while improving his chances on landing even more scholarship offers Dreher has a few areas he'll key on this offseason. "I want to work on improving my ballhandling and getting stronger in the weight room."

Dreher has added 2 more scholarship offers to his resume since our last update. "I have offers from South Carolina State and Buffalo now too." Already holding offers from Winthrop and Charleston Southern it now brings his total to four offers. A number of schools continue to recruit the 2009 standout. "I hear the most from Winthrop, High Point, Clemson, Charlotte, and Western Kentucky. I talk with Winthrop and Charleston Southern on a regular basis and coach Berry from Western Kentucky too. Clemson and South Carolina have laid off a little bit lately but we’ll see if they pick up after this year."

Currently Dreher says he has no favorite and is wide open to anybody that wants to recruit him. SCPrepNation.com will continue to bring you the latest regarding the 2009 standout as he continues to pile up scholarship offers.

Scout's Take: Dreher has developed tremendously physically and with his basketball IQ. He's still a deadly outside shooter but he's also displayed the strength and ability to get to the bucket and finish. One of the most clutch players we've seen in the past few years he answers the bell when an opposing team tries to make a run. His ballhandling is good as a shooting guard but if he improves it even more to show the ability to run a team as a combo guard we think more schools will step forward with offers. If he can show he can run a team or bring the ball up the court for stretches during a game if needed we think his stock will drastically improve. College coaches are looking for versatility and he's made it a point to try and do that this offseason. His work in the weight room shows with his explosiveness and being a more physical threat this season. Right now we've got him ranked somewhere in the #2-#4 range for the top South Carolina players overall in the 2009 class. He very well could grow another inch or two while adding more muscle so expect more offers. KF
