Words of Encouragement to a Special Player

We here at SC Pigskin Prep are proud of our community of fans and thier passion and love for the game and players. This was posted earlier as an open message to a great young man and player. Thanks to Lady Wildcat and all our friends at Lexington and the Wildcat Hollow.

For the past four years we have watched Demetris Summers as he has matured as a football player. He has broken Derek Watson's rushing record and Watson's career TD record. Meat, as he is known to most of his friends and fans is the best player ever to come out of Lexington High School and I think out of South Carolina.

Summers has been named to the US Army East vs West All Star game. He made the Ridell All American team. But..he didnt make his own state's all star team?? He was left off that Shrine Bowl roster. As to why..Who Knows except for Rock Hills coach Jim Ringer. Coach Ringer made a fatal mistake in leaving off Summers. But we can do nothing about it. But we can be proud that Demetris is one of our own. He takes time out to sign autographs for kids on friday nights. He has kept silent on why he did not make the team. That makes him in my eyes the bigger winner.

Summers will move beyond this traversity and play ball next year. He has nothing to prove to anyone. He has already done that on the field. We will watch as he makes us proud in the collegiate ranks.

So to Demetris we say that we are proud of you. Hold your head high. We know you deserved to play in the Shrine Bowl. But you can't please some people no matter what you do. Ringer will coach his team but the true fans of SC football know that he will do it without one of the best players in the nation. We all know that he is the loser here! And we all stand behind you Demetris as you finish out your senior year. Demetris, you make us proud to call you a true Wildcat!
