Mike Davis: ACC School Close To Offering? Premium Story

We first told you about 2009 Greenville High DE Mike Davis a year ago. Now the athletic prospect has a long list of schools chasing him for his services. Davis talks about his recruitment, workout plans for the offseason, and upcoming camp schedule inside. Come inside and learn more about the dynamite Greenville Red Raider.

Mike Davis Profile

2009 prospect Mike Davis isn't the biggest defensive end out there but what he brings to the table is an uncanny nose for the ball and superb quickness off the ball. At 6'2 250 Davis may be a couple inches shy of what many college coaches deem to be a prototype end on the next level but once you watch him in action his talent is unquestionable. In terms of size he's close to 2008 superstar Everett Dawkins of Byrnes and brings almost all of the strength/speed that the Florida State signee has. That has quickly made Davis a priority prospect for a number of colleges throughout the country.

Davis works hard in the weight room. Currently he bench presses 315 pounds and squats 505 pounds. His 40 yard dash time isn't overly impressive at 4.8 seconds but while his speed doesn't translate in stopwatch speed his game speed is more than adequate. Proof of that game speed? Try 125 tackles, 27 tackles for loss, and 9 sacks. (We believe Davis forgot about a long interception return for TD this past season as well.)

Knowing that many coaches will want to see his stopwatch speed improve Davis is currently hard at work to improve his speed he says, "My quickness and speed are the biggest things I'm working hard on. I want to be able to go past blockers without being touched. I also want to emphasize on being able to stay low coming off the ball."

The Red Raiders have fielded a strong team annually over the past several seasons and Davis expects next season to be another strong one for his team. "My goals are for the team to go to state and for me to make all-state. I want to have offensive linemen trying to double team me like they did late last year." Facing a challenge is something he responded well too.

Already since this past season ended the 2009 prospect has already made a few visits and he shared those with us. "I have already been to North Carolina State and South Carolina. I am planning on going to Tennessee. I would also like to go see Alabama too."

As of late a great number of schools have started to show strong interest in Mike's talents. "I'm hearing the most from Colorado, Akron, NC State, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee, and Florida. NC State, Colorado, and Tennessee are coming after me the hardest out of those schools I'd say. NC State I feel may be close to offering me."

During his career Davis has seen some strong opposition and he talked about the players he felt were the toughest he's ever lined up against. "David Smith, Wilson Norris, and Kenneth Page are probably the toughest guys I've played." (Ironically all three are Clemson Tigers, Page is a 2008 commit)

Two games on the slate for next season stand out the most for Davis. "Being a Red Raider I have to say J.L. Mann is the game I look most forward to but other than that Fort Dorchester because it will be on a Saturday. Everyone will doubt us again but we will prove them wrong."

Davis also says he will attend the Scout.com/Under Armour Combine as well as a Nike Camp this offseason.
