Howard, Richardson, & Cohen Go In NFL Draft

Howard, Richardson, & Cohen Go In NFL Draft

Another NFL Draft has taken place and while there wasn't a huge splash made in the 2008 draft there were still a handful of former South Carolina high school players who were drafted. Marcus Howard (pictured) of Hanahan High was one of the three to hear his name called. Come inside and see who was drafted this weekend and will be looking to make an NFL roster come training camp time.

Marcus Howard-DE Georgia (Hanahan High School)
Marcus Howard has been a guy that many folks overlooked. Even coming out of Hanahan High School Howard wasn't highly recruited. The Georgia Bulldogs lined him up as a speedy/undersized defensive end and Howard relished the role and ultimately his hard work and perseverance earned him a spot in this weekend's NFL draft. The Indianapolis Colts who already boast a plethora of defensive standouts who may not be the biggest prototype players out there but get the job done and then some with superb speed added Howard to their team on Sunday. Howard was selected in the fifth round by the Colts and all indications appear that it would be a great fit.

Barry Richardson-OT Clemson (Wando High School)
Barry Richardson had a pretty successful career at Clemson but one thing hurt his stock in the eyes of many NFL teams and analysts. His desire and passion for the game itself. Barry is a huge and imposing figure on the field but teams were wanting to see some a high level of intensity and focus from him. The Kansas City Chiefs were willing to see if they could develop the former Wando High's mean streak and get him to focus on being a dominant tackle on the next level. Richardson was taken in the sixth round of Sunday's draft. It will be interesting to see how Richardson responds to being a pro and if he can develop the way the Chiefs envision him as a bookend tackle to their first round selection Branden Albert of Virginia.

Landon Cohen-DT Ohio University (Spartanburg High School)
Cohen is another prospect who wasn't highly recruited coming out of Spartanburg High. The hard working prospect went out to Ohio University and was named to the MAC conference second team for the past two seasons. Cohen was drafted in the seventh round by the Detroit Lions a team that had Cohen make a visit for a workout prior to the draft.

SCPrepNation.com will keep a close eye on all three prospects as they will head to training camp in hopes of securing a roster spot on their respective teams. We will also try to track any free agent signings of former South Carolina high school standouts as well so keep it locked right here!
