When it comes to the term student-athlete, Ridge View High teammates, DB Steffon Batts and RB Bucky Kennedy fit the mold so very well. Not only have these two young men been getting it done on the gridiron, but they have been putting in lots of hard work in the classroom. As of date, the two are currently holding down 3.6 core GPAs inside the classroom….
With a 3.6 core GPA, it is easy to see why schools with high academic standards such as Vanderbilt, Duke, and the service academies have been flooding the hallways at Ridge View High. In fact, one particular service academy program has already extended the Ridge View pair a scholarship offer.
“One of the coaches from Air Force came by the school the other day,” Batts told SCPrepNation.com. “Basically he told me that he had seen transcript, and that he loved my grades. He also said that he had a chance to see my highlight tape. He told me that he was pretty much impressed with what he saw, and that he wanted to offer me.”
After Batts had received an offer from the Air Force Academy, it wasn’t long before they had decided to offer Kennedy as well… “I was a little shocked at first,” the talented running back said. “It kind of caught me off guard. I didn’t really celebrate out loud, but on the inside I was like man this is crazy (laughing)… It really felt good to get that first one in. I was waiting on that one; my first offer.”
According to the Ridge View duo, several other major DI programs have been making frequent stops by their school. The two informed SCPrepNation.com that Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Clemson, were a few others that have been checking on them.
Batts and Kennedy are nowhere close to making their final decision. The two of will continue to take their time with their recruitment, and will proceed to the next step whenever they feel it’s necessary.
