To say Marcus Lattimore is a "beast" would be a mistake. Yes the term is reserved for elite athletes and prospects on the gridiron. If you've taken as long of a look at Lattimore as we've done over his career we're comfortable with a new term for the 2010 stud running back, "MEGABEAST".
At 6'1 210 pounds Lattimore has the combination of size, speed, power, vision, and receiving ability that has schools all over the country scrambling to not only recruit the Byrnes star but to mail out scholarship offers at a rapid pace. With recent offers from the likes of LSU and North Carolina Marcus Lattimore is a fan favorite for fans of all ages for the Byrnes Rebels. To see grown men rant and rave amongst themselves in the barbershop about whether or not Lattimore is the best running back to ever come out of the Palmetto State is not uncommon.
How good is Lattimore as he leads the Rebels who are currently the #1 ranked team in the nation according to the USA Today poll? Take a look at his numbers for the Rebels during his career to this point below. Numbers are through last week's game versus Lincoln High (FL) in which the Rebels walked away with a convincing 38-0 rout. Lincoln came in ranked the #3 AAAA team in the state of Florida heading into the contest.
Marcus Lattimore Inside The Numbers
- Rushing Attempts: 406 attempts (needs 55 attempts to set the record for most attempts in a career) 24 year old record
- 2,733 yards (needs 103 yards to be the All Time Rusher at Byrnes) 32 year old record
- 39 touchdowns (Marcus holds the record)
The numbers may not be overly mind boggling to many people but when you consider how Byrnes has been considered a pass happy squad over the past decade you start to get a sense of what he's been able to do for the Rebels in his first 2 seasons. Now in his 3rd season Lattimore should continue to rewrite the Byrnes rushing record book.
Special thanks goes out to Mr. Tony McAbee for providing us with the career statistics concerning Marcus Lattimore.
