SCPrepNation recently had the privilege of speaking with Fort Dorchester linebacker, Geno Porter. And from the sound of things, he is going to be one busy young man this summer.
“Yes sir, it’s going to be a pretty busy summer for me,” the 6-0, 210 pound linebacker told SCPrepNation.com. “I am going to be attending several camps this summer. I’ll be going to Duke, North Carolina State, Georgia Tech, Clemson, The Citadel Camp, and the Furman Camp.”
Football camps without question, will take up a considerable amount of Porter’s time this summer. However, he also plans to fit weight-lifting into his hectic schedule. And with the little bit of time he has left, he will be using it to learn a new position on the offensive side of the ball.
“On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, we lift weights,” Porter said. “So I’ll be working out from 8:00-10:30. Since I’ll be playing both ways this fall, I will have to study film in order to learn a new position on offense. I’ll be playing a little H-Back this fall. So I’ll probably have to have to come in early, or stay after workouts to watch film.”
Porter has not seen a whole lot of time, if any, on the offensive side of the ball for the Patriots. So it will be very interesting to see how the Fort D star fares this fall. Defensively speaking, there’s no doubt that he’ll have another productive season on the defensive side of the ball this season. Last fall the head-hunter received credit for 127 tackles, 3 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, 2 pass break ups, 2 fumble recoveries, and 1 INT.
Stay tuned for much more on this 2010 sleeper from out of the Low Country Region of South Carolina.
Note: Geno is also very talented inside the classroom. The gifted student-athlete informed us that he is the International Baccalaureate Program, and that he is looking to finish out his junior year with a 3.5 GPA. He has scored a 940 on the SAT (1st attempt), but will be re-taking it in the near future to improve his scores. He has also received an Academic Leadership Scholarship from Newberry College.
