SEC Offer For 2012 PF Brandon Bolden

SEC Offer For 2012 PF Brandon Bolden

Apparently one SEC program saw plenty of 2012 PF Brandon Bolden over the summer on the AAU circuit. The Sumter High standout went on a recruiting visit to check out the campus and watch a football game but didn't come home emptyhanded. Emerging with his first scholarship offer Bolden sat down with SCPrepNation.com to talk about the early state of his recruitment inside and more.

Brandon Bolden Profile

It didn't take long for 2012 Sumter High PF Brandon Bolden to start gathering interest from a number of schools early on. The 6'9 195 pound prospect ran on the summer AAU circuit with the Celtics South program and ever since then his stock has started to rise in the eyes of college coaches and analysts. SCPrepNation.com caught up with Bolden to talk about the early status of his recruitment and outlook for his upcoming junior season for Sumter High.

Bolden shared with us just some of the schools that he's been hearing from as of late. "I've heard from Wichita State, Auburn, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia Tech, Florida, College of Charleston, Presbyterian, East Carolina, VCU, and Elon. Those are the ones I can think of right now."

One school apparently kept their eyes on Bolden quite a bit this summer as he just made a trip to their campus this past weekend to check things out and take in a football game.

"Yes sir I went down to Georgia this past weekend. They really didn't say a whole lot to me. It was just a recruiting visit, went to the football game, toured the campus, and watched them practice. I'm guessing they saw me before because I didn't workout or anything for them. Coach Fox offered me verbally though."

Given that Bolden has yet to play a game during his sophomore season he shared his thoughts on the early offer from the Bulldogs. "It feels good. It's like a little bit of pressure off of me now that I have my first offer. Now I'm even more focused on getting more offers."

The early offer sometimes goes over in a big way with many recruits so does that put the SEC school in front of everyone else for Bolden? "It really depends on whoever I like the most in the end. It doesn't matter."

"I would say I'm wide open to anybody who wants to recruit me."

The North Carolina Tar Heels and Kansas Jayhawks are two programs that Bolden says he'd like to hear from in the near future.

At 6'9 195 pounds Bolden usually holds a height advantage on most opponents on the high school level but it's his mentality and recognition that makes him stand out at this point. He shared with us his own evaluation of where his strengths are on the hardwood at this juncture in his career. "It depends on what kind of post player I'm playing against, if they are bigger and stronger than me then I'm going to use my speed to get around them or if they're smaller than me than I can post them up and go up over them."

Add the fact that Bolden is a lefty and it's easy to see why so many coaches are making him an early target in the recruiting process.

The Sumter standout says he's been working hard on trying to improve his ballhandling skills in order to put the ball on the deck more to prepare himself for the college level. That along with using his right hand more to balance his game out even more.

Bolden has already seen his fair share of battles in his first season of hoops with Sumter last year. One game in particular last season he felt helped him grow as a player and sticks out in his mind.

"Probably the Conway game last season. I had 18 points and 9 or 10 boards. It was a real close game and I hit a real big shot to keep us in it in the final seconds."

Looking ahead to his sophomore season Bolden says he hopes that his team can win their region and eventually cap the year with a AAAA state championship. On a personal level Bolden says he'd like to average at least 16 points and 10 rebounds per contest this season.

Watching Bolden in action you can see some of the traits that he's taken from his favorite player Carmelo Anthony.

"Yeah my favorite player is Carmelo Anthony so I try to take a lot of his game especially the spin moves and that kind of stuff."
