Continuing to scour the Palmetto State we have run across another gem of a prospect at Belton Honea Path High School in 2011 LB/DE Darrius Williams. You may not know his name already but SCPrepNation.com always finds the top prospects before they blow up in a major way.
Williams plays defensive end for BHP but we're projecting him as a linebacker on the next level. At 6'2 220 pounds he's got the size to come off the edge on the high school level but one of his most impressive numbers is a gaudy 40 time as he reports a 4.49 second time. If he's able to duplicate that time come spring when our combine rolls around expect offers to come in droves for Williams. Add the fact that he holds down a 3.9 GPA and has already scored 1197 on the SAT and it's easy to see why we're so high on Williams to be one of 2011's brightest and best prospects.
Last season Williams racked up some solid stats for the Bearcats with 66 tackles, 8 tackles for loss, 14 quarterback hurries, 7 sacks, and 1 pass breakup. Williams is extremely versatile because he also lines up at running back, kicker, and also handles the Bearcats' kickoff duties.
"That's something I don't mind. I'm willing to do anything to help the team."
Williams and the Bearcats faced a number of teams last season and there were some intense battles on the field. He shared with us some of his memories from this past season.
"Clinton was one of the toughest team because they were really physical. As far as individual players I faced I'd say DeAndre Hopkins from Daniel High because he was so athletic. Another one would have to be Shaq Anthony from Wren, he's probably the best offensive lineman I played against this year."
Asked to recall some of his best games Williams replied, "I'd say the Pickens game where I had 3 sacks and 4 tackles for loss and then the Eastside game I had a sack, 3 quarterback hurries, and drew 8 holding penalties against their offensive line. Really because I broke two records against those two teams."
This offseason for Williams will be one that will be about getting faster and stronger he informed us.
Schools have already started to inquire about Williams and he shared those college programs with us.
Williams says he has yet to visit any campuses but he also has a short list of other schools that he's highly interested in hearing from in the near future.
While he plays defensive end now switching to linebacker won't be a problem for him if a potential college staff wanted to move him around.
The 2011 standout already has an idea as to what he'll be looking at when studying potential college programs. "I'm looking for a good college for my major, with good facilities, and a nice atmosphere."
Williams' body of work landed him quite a few awards this season as he was named to 1st team all-region selection and named BHP's top defensive lineman. He also plays basketball and soccer for BHP. His academic prowess has landed him on the honor roll consistently and he's also been named to the Beta Club as well.
Stay tuned to SCPrepNation.com for Williams' junior season highlights and more updates as we expect colleges to start hitting Belton Honea Path High with regularity.
