After his Cap and Gown Ceremony in ’09, former Hanahan High School standout, Nick Carson, opted to take his game to the JUCO ranks. SCPrepNation recently caught up with the 6-2, 190 pound DB to see how things have been going as of late.

Former Hanahan High football star, Nick Carson, packed his bags last summer and took his skill set out to New Mexico Military Institute. And after arriving on campus, Mr. Carson realized that life at NMMI wasn’t quite like a traditional college setting. “Yeah it’s a little different out here,” Carson said. “It’s much different from a regular college setting. The rules are much stricter. You really have to do your work here. Going to class is mandatory. If you miss a class, you’ll get in trouble.”

Nick’s freshman year at NMMI has almost come to an end. But the former SC prep star admitted that adjusting to the lifestyle at NMMI wasn’t easy. In fact, he wasn’t quite sure whether he had made the right decision initially. But the more he pondered over the importance of a college education, and a chance to play major college football, things became a little easier for him...

The former LowCountry star is now in position to move on to a four-year college in another semester or so. And one school in particular has already extended him an invitation to join their program whenever he departs from NMMI. And that school is, Newberry College. However, Newberry will be in some stiff competition amongst some of the other programs that have been reaching out to Carson as of late.

“I’ve been getting attention from a lot of schools,” Carson shared with SCPrepNation.com. “Auburn, Troy, Southern Miss, South Florida, Tulsa, Maryland, and Oregon State, just to name a few…”

Carson went on to share that Troy University has been the most consistent program keeping tabs on him throughout the recruiting process. But now it appears that they have a little bit of competition from the SEC... “Auburn has been coming on really strong lately,” the 6-2, 190 pound DB said. “I received like five letters from them on this past week. But we’ll wait and see how it all plays out.”

Carson expects for his stock to continue rising between now and the time he departs from NMMI. He knows it’s only a matter of time before more offers start rolling in. He has simply come to the realization that if he continues work hard inside the classroom and on the field that everything else will take care of itself…

Stay tuned for more on Carson in the near future, as we are certain there’s much more to come…
