Things have picked up in recent weeks for 2011 Belton Honea Path LB/DE Darrius Williams. Plenty of schools have stepped up their interest and Williams is starting to see just how the recruiting world works exactly.
In our most recent Top 50 List for 2011 we have Williams checking in at number twenty seven. That caused a stir as we fielded quite a few phone calls and emails as to why Williams was ranked ahead of prospects who already hold scholarship offers.
While Williams hasn't landed a scholarship offer yet we still project the 2011 prospect to be one of the state's top players regardless of position. He's lined up for the Bearcats at defensive end most of his career but he'll see additional time on offense in the backfield this year to go along with his duties as the team's punter. In fact, Williams has been booting it fairly consistently over 50 yards. He will be participating in this year's Shrine Bowl combine in hopes of catching the eyes of the coaching staff there.
The list of schools stepping up with interest has been a wide range of programs. Schools like South Carolina, Florida, Vanderbilt, Illinois, Penn, Princeton and Duke are the most recent schools in the mix for Williams. Florida, Illinois, North Carolina State, and Penn have all invited the BHP standout down to their respective camps so they can get a look at him in person to assess him.
Williams also recently took in a practice at South Carolina recently as well. From the sounds of things Williams is pretty high on the in-state Gamecocks after that visit.
